Director Of Youth Services

Leading The Children's Department

Responsible to lead the children’s department staff in providing exceptional service to children, teens, and families at our Library. This position has the responsibility for implementing library policies, collection development & maintenance, as well as recommending, designing, directing, supervising, and evaluating an active youth services program to meet the needs of the community.

Ideal Candidate Will Exemplify:

The ideal candidate has a passion for being of service to the community by supporting young people, their families, caregivers, and educators. Candidate must have the ability to create a fun environment that fosters exploration, discovery, lifelong learning, and a love of reading! Professional duties will cover the full scope of library services within a teamwork environment. The Director of Youth Services creates, coordinates, and oversees the services and programs delivering high-quality programming and outreach for children and youth 0 – 18 years. Other responsibilities include collection development, developing engaging programs, utilizing social media platforms to deliver communications, and readers advisory recommendations. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master's Degree in Library & Information Science (MLIS) from a college/university accredited by the ALA with experience in a public library preferred OR A Batchelor's Degree and a minimum of two years of working with youth required.
  • Strong customer service, communication, technology, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of library operations and materials and supervisory experience is helpful.
  • Required clearances to be submitted at the time of hire: Federal Criminal History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Criminal Record Check (Act 34), and Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 33/151)

Other Skills & Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license, insurance, and access to reliable transportation
  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods
  • Ability to move library materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to reach and access lower shelving units (reasonable accommodations available)

Position Salary

Salary is based on experience and includes sick, personal, and vacation time, options for enrollment in an IRA plan, optional dental and vision insurance.
