Custodial Maintenance/Janitorial

Knowledge and experience of technical cleaning duties: mopping, vacuuming, washing windows, experience in the use of specialized equipment and chemicals, and general maintenance of the facility is essential for success in this role. Equally important are the physical skills: stamina, strength to lift 50+ pounds, and the ability to stand and move for long periods. Soft skills such as communication, problem-solving, time management, and attention to detail are necessary.

• Safety and security checks of the library and grounds including maintenance of the emergency and security systems, lighting, and outside timers.
• Inventory management of cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment. 
• Supply areas kept in a neat and orderly manner.
• Cleaning and maintenance of trafficked areas on a daily basis. 
• Glass doors and windows accessible to patrons are to be cleaned bi-weekly.
• Cleaning and maintenance of the non-public areas [basement, attic, and furnace rooms].
• Seasonal cleaning of windows, grounds, walls, and siding.
• Moving furniture, equipment, and materials as requested.
• Maintaining the grounds, entryways, sidewalks, and parking lot. 
• Trash collection and bin cleaning.
• Minor repairs of furniture, walls, and building.
• Checks emergency lighting, exit signs, and smoke detectors monthly and maintains a log of condition. Yearly system evaluations of fire extinguishers, elevator maintenance, and security system scheduled by Executive Director. 

• Proficiency in cleaning methods and equipment.
• Knowledge of safe chemical handling under OSHA standards.
• Knowledge in using lawn maintenance equipment, hand tools, and ladders.
• Ability to walk, stand, and bend for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis and over 50 lbs. when needed.
• Ability to work independently and manage time to complete tasks efficiently to the utmost detail and standards. 
• Ability to adapt to changing tasks, environments, weather conditions, and schedules.

• Prolonged periods in one position.
• Dust, mildew, and other allergens.

• Heights and use of a ladder.
• Lifting up to 50 lbs. daily, over 50 lbs. as needed.

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of experience in housekeeping and light maintenance.
• Willingness to learn and grow.
• Knowledge and experience in small tool and equipment usage and maintenance.
• Basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical skills.
